Meet the Founder
Kathy Long, aka 'Kat'
- Recognized as one of the "10 Local SEO specialists you should follow for regular information" on Koozai's Digital Marketing Blog
- 2011 NATIONAL WINNER of Bruce Clay's Local Discovery Contest for her contribution on Local SEO
- Sought after speaker on the topics of web design and development, SEO, local search, and social media marketing
A varied work history combining the analyst with the artist
Before diving into the Internet, Kathy worked in Marketing Communications, primarily as a business presentation specialist, for Seagate Technology in Scotts Valley, California where she honed her skills in copywriting, graphic design, business presentations, and multimedia. It was also there that her talent with the writtern word, attention to detail, and obsession with correct grammar and punctuation won her the honor of crafting the styleguide that governed the way all of Seagate's business presentations would be developed worldwide.
She left in 1993 to run the computer education department at a local elementary school. In that position while the web was in its infancy, she built the school's first website, then went on as an educator with the Santa Cruz Department of Education and taught teachers throughout the county how to bring the Internet into their curriculum.
In 1995 she created NetCafé, the first internet web portal for restaurants, and leveraged database integration which was new to the web at the time. Shortly after, she started her own web development firm, Kat & Mouse Web Design and in that position has served hundreds of clients from Santa Cruz to Taiwan up to the present.
In 2000 she also co-founded and acted as CEO of SITE-etc, a web hosting and application provider. Together with her partner and programmer, they designed and developed dozens of cutting edge, plug-in web applications at a time when "plugin" only conjured up visions of electrical sockets. It was there that she developed skills in software design, and through fielding tech support calls and complaints she quickly learned the art and importance of user-friendly interface design.
Mix it all together, and you have a complete package.
Kat combines the right brain with the left, the artist with the analytic, and melds her talents in marketing, graphic design, multimedia production, software design and development, web design, SEO into a complete package of services that leave her customers wondering what else they could ever want or need. Working with local businesses is her passion these days and she takes great delight in getting their phones ringing.
Kathy knows the web. She knows business. She knows design.
She also knows human interaction and behavior.
She knows how to build your online business.

Is there really life after work?
When she's not working, and when she can pull herself away from endless research to remain the expert she is, Kathy's probably dancing West Coast Swing or practicing for a ballroom dance competition somewhere in the Santa Cruz or San Jose area. Think twice if she tells you she needs to get to a board meeting. She's really meeting up with the floor boards at the local dance studio.
